final entry [29 Sep 2006|01:16pm]
As I write this update eco-genocidal money hungry universal wank stains and environmental traitors are flooding the Kárahnjúkar valley. The Dam doors closed this morning and condemned the valled to a slow and painful death. Most of those responsible and those who will profit have never walked along the rivers or seen the reindear that will die when their breading grounds are drowned and have never picked the clover or drunk water from the streams. They've never sat naked in the warm pools watching the sun set with a vodka chilled with the glaciers ice. No words describe my hatred for these people. I suppose cunts will have to do.

going, but not for ever

time to bring the war against Alcoa home... [13 Aug 2006|03:06pm]
[ music | Moby - Porcelin ]

Im back in Helensburgh now. Its been an amazing 5 days of travelling with the most amazing people. Ive had such a great few days. Camped in a fort, drunk whisky at 7am, tried to learn to unicycle, ate lots of skipped sweets, danced on deck to the acordion and hung out with a clown. Ive got back and have to get photos of a cop to email to Reykjavik, sort my flat out, unload a car and talk to Angela about stuff. Its good to be home, but will be better once Ive had a pint in the Clyde. Just got to get rid of these dam sea legs...

After the last update (which was done in Reydarfjordur, which is where the Alcoa Aluminium smelter is being built) I had lamb chops for lunch then headed for a walk. First we went to the Esso to get papers. On the back page of one was a big copy of one of my action photos with my name given as credit. Saving Iceland will even get payed for it. In the article the head of thwe police says that we were liers and no battons were used. The photo clearly shows 2 cops with battons, one getting pushed into A's back. They must of been pissed. We then climbed up a hill and found a beautiful pool in a small river. It was hiden away and the security truck that had tailed us all day couldn't see us. We went for a swim in the snow melt water. Although the water was cold it made us all feel so alive (and cleared my hangover). If you lay in the water you could look down the fjord and not see a single piece of human influence. Unfortunatly when you stood on the rocks to get out the sight of the ugly pillons and roads came into view, and revieled the scars left on the landscape. After we walked to a cliff top and drunk the remaining beer before getting a lift back to camp.

When we arrived we heard there was to be an action that morning. I was getting persuaded to go but I decided not to as I wasnt feeling up to it. I lent H my camera though. Some footage got onto the 10 news. They went off into the night as I got some sleep. I was on the graveyard shift for lookout, 3-5.

The next day I got up to find a nearly empty camp. Lots of people have left and the action ment we were low in numbers. It was sunny and still, and so quite hot. We laized about and had vegy burgers and potato burgers for lunch. I was feeling quite content and decided to go to the hot spring for a dip. I got my towel and headed across the hill. As I got close I seen two sets of clothes near by. I decided not to bother whoever it was and head back. As I turned something caught my eye. It was a white 4x4. Through the dust cloud behind it came a cop jeep, then another, and another. About 6 police vehicles and a mini-bus rushed towards us. I was running screaming "pigs!" but in a large valley its easy for your vioce to be lost. My chest infection slowed my running and I was coughing in between shouts. I could see people behind the kitchen tent oblivios to the eviction (forgot to mention that we had moved camp to a less accesible and easily defenced camp). As I got close people spotted the cops and begun running for the lock-on defences. As I got to camp a line of yellow jackets appeared on the horrizon coming the other way and then 3 small planes flew over head buzzing us. It was confusing. It looked like a war movie. We had less than 10 on site and had little chance of seeing the eviction off. I started packing my stuff. The cops told us we were all arrested. Eventually they de-arrested the Icelandic couple that had arrived the night before. Then those of us who were tatting down were dearrested. They ripped people from lock-ons then arrested them and put them on their fronts. Eventually they were allowed to go and pack their tents. We tatted down the entire site over several hours and loded it into workers jeeps. Then the police took us to the police station. In the van on the way we heard over the radio that we had been evicted and heard interviews with our friends in town. Was a bit wierd to be on the news while it was happening to you. In town we werent arrested and they even stored some of our stuff till we can get a vehicle to move it.

We met the others who had done the action. They were pulled from lock-ons and had bleeding wrists. This was made worse by tight cable-ties. One person was pressure pointed and strangled to try and get him from a lock-on. These cops are fucking lucky we are peaceful protestors. If we had this number of confrontational activists they'd get a fucking kick-in.

Last night we camped in a forest! This is a luxury in Iceland. Today I might have a chill out before the voyage back in a couple of days......or maybe not. ;)

Well done Ben for your first action! And well done Mum for painting the rocks (I checked Indymedia)!

Bye xxx

Guerillas in the mist [05 Aug 2006|12:48am]
(edited to remove drunk spelling and add some more)

Last Tuesday we did an action at Eibacher. This is an area that was thretened with major damming but only has minor damming now. It will still result in the destruction of an important bird habitat. It was a stressful walk and a crazy action but raised awaireness. It got good news coverage. We had a picnic on the main dam site last Sunday. This was suppost to be fluffy but ended in masked blocs pushing cop lines. They drove at people, tried to take a child from his father and pushed me to the ground and tried to kick me in the head and only just missed. I´m fine, and the footage of it got on TV. Monday we tried to move site from a legal site that was far from the dam area, to an illegal site only an hours walk from the dam. The pigs came and drove at Ollie. They almost killed him and it ended in a confrontation with the cops. That night we went to the new site. The next day they came several times and did an illegal drugs raid. They searched tents and were violent. That night they blockaded the roads with huge piles of rubble to try and starve us out. Some people went off at night to unblock them. We were unstoppable. People poored from the mist and their piles of gravel fell before our spades. We moved site and they could do nothing. The cops stayed away from our new site that has been named Fort Lindur. Today we went on an action at the main dam site. We walked to one of the smaller side dams and people locked onto machines. The cops acted violently. Tried to drive at Dan and then nicked our camera man. People were nicked violently but it was the first time locks were cut by Icelandic cops. Before they got the bolt cutters they threatened to use their big US style can of pepper spray on people locked by their necks, and pulled at people. Some people have injuries. Once we were all arrested (numero 14 for me) they put us on a bus and drove us for about an hour with cable tied hands. We were released eventually and had beer and chips. Everyone is ok(ish).

Im going to camp tomorow. Im fine. Love you all. Want a kabab and Tennants...and The Clyde. See you all in a week or so.

Bye! xxxxx

ps. Thank you all for your support messages. Ill try and answer them all.

I´m alive! [24 Jul 2006|04:47pm]
Sorry for not updating sooner. After a long drive down a dirt track towards a mordor like mountain we arrived at the camp as Sniffel. It was too windy and peoples tents were breaking under the strain. Our bags got taken to another site and we walked across the hills towards it. It was amazing. I wish I could plug my camera in and download photos. The sun set was amazing. All the while we could see this massive glacier that went off into the horizon. After all these years studying them and their effects I got to see the biggest in Europe. The camp site had a hut and 2 warm pools. Both vehicles left and we were stranded for a week. We only just had enough food and had bread rashions. We ate mainly potatoes since we had 2 sacks of them. At one point our despiration got so bad K pretended we were at a bar and we all drank imaginary pints. It actually worked and we could all taste the beer going down. The warm pools were great and I spent a few hours lying in them. We did a few recys and I got to see the dam in all its uglyness. Some sniveling little fuck stain has come to this place and thought "I could put a fuck off big dam there and make money." One day L went for a walk. She didnt return for ages and as it gor dark we sent a search party out. We walked\jogged for about 2 hours over rough terrain in a bog line until we spotted her strolling back fine. On the way back I picked up a lump of glacier ice that floated past and had a nice cold vodka on the rocks at 4 in the morning watching the sun come up.

Last Friday we were rescued at 2 in the morning and went to the camp at Sniffel. The wind had stopped and the weather is amazing. We are writting "STOP ALCOA" with dirt on a piece of snow on the hill.

On Saturday there was a walk to the dam site from a Reindeer breading ground that will be sent underwater if the dam is filled. Some women managed to persuade most of the Icelanders not to take part in a walk-on at the end of the walk. There is a split between radical outsiders and the icelanders, although more Icelanders are realising whats necissary to stop this dam. Some of the Youth Against Heavy Industry are at the camp, and are cool as fuck. We had an hour long techno party last night as the sun set in the most amazing orange. I really see a bond between people and hopefully something will come of it.

Both my boots have holes in them and my feet have blisters. I got a sun burnt nose yesterday. Ive lost a shit load of weight...and I´m fucking loving it. Cant wait to show you all my amazing photos.

Got to go. Beer to buy, sites to recy, dams to stop. See you all in the Clyde when I return. Love you all.

safe and sound [14 Jul 2006|11:09am]
Somehow, I´ve made it to Iceland. I am sitting in Elskadere. After 2 days fo sea sickness, the boat crashing and having to spend a night moored in the Faroe´s, some crazy camp old weegy and searches and questioning at the border, we arrived in iceland and camped rough in the hills last night. Iceland is underscribably beautiful. I will post pictures when I can. We´re heading off to the camp in about an hour. Hope everyone is good!

to boldly go where no Jones has gone before... [11 Jul 2006|10:27am]
Sunday night I get an email back from one of the email addresses I messaged asking if others were getting the same ferry as me. Along with saying that he was getting that ferry he said he thought the Tuesday ferry wouldn't get into Lerwick with enough time to get the Iceland ferry. He was right. A night of frantic internet ticket buying and crazy packing latter and I was on my way to the land of Ice. I get the train to Glasgow, bus to Aberdeen and then boarded the ferry to Lerwick, Shetland. On board I met up with the other activists. All great people and we had a nice night chilling and talking about Iceland. I asked a million questions as these guys had been to Iceland last year. We had a few pints in the bar, which wasnt as expensive as I expected. Its wierd drinking on a boat because it rocks about and you think you're more drunk than you actually are.

After an OK nights sleep and breakfast of a cheese and pickle sandwich on top deck we headed to explore the Island. The first Shetlander I emt happened to be in my Env Science class at Uni and probably the only person on the island I know. Which was wierd. We wandered about a bit and went to the pier. There was chatted to the local about birds when he suddenly shouted "whales!" and we all looked up to see a pod of Orca (Killer Whales) swimming really close to the jetty. We were all in shock. I have a picture but cant upload it from this library computer unfortunatly. It was amazing. Best start to the day.

Off for more exploring now. Net time I update I'll hopefully be in Iceland. Bye!

PS. Mum, I got the ticket for todays ferry refunded and on the bit of paper with times/dates on it it should say Sunday the 13th not Monday the 13th.

Getting ready...sort of [05 Jul 2006|04:21pm]
I leave next Tuesday morning for a month. I'll go to Glasgow by train, then bus to Aberdeen, then overnight ferry to Lerwick, Shetland, then a day there before an overnight ferry to Seyðisfjörður, Iceland. It will take 3 days to get there. I've not really got my stuff together, and I need to get a move on. I'm a bit worried about it all, but I'm sure I'll get through it in the crazy unorganised way I do most things. My Grans nicely giving me some money via my Dad. Anyway, I'll update before I head off and then when I arive.

Dislaimer: Everything written here is obviously fiction and is only meant for entertainment purposes only. None of the names, places or events are real. Therefor, any of you cops watching this are wasting their time. :)
